Michael McLachlan whizzes around to each udder as part of the disinfecting process where the cows are sprayed off, the teats are dipped in iodine and 30 seconds later they are wiped down before the milking cups are attached. McLachlan and his co-worker repeat this process over and over for the 1200 cows which have to be milked every day, three times a day. The milk is then gently sucked into the cold collection tanks for storage before transport twice a day to the United Dairymen of Arizona cooperative where it is processed and supplied to local grocery stores and dairy companies. Modern fencing allows the cows to stick their heads through an adjustable gated slots at spaced distances to keep the cows comfortable and safe while eating. The gated fencing also can be moved to a locked position to prevent keep heads inside the corral during cleaning or maintenance. View photo by Ray Thomas
